3 pM - Wreath Laying Ceremony

  • Organized by the North Korea Freedom Coalition

  • Hosted by the Korean War Memorial Foundation

Every North Korea Freedom Week begins with this emotional ceremony where former North Korean soldiers, raised from childhood to hate Americans, lay a wreath to honor the Americans and others who died for South Korea’s freedom and pledge to honor their sacrifice by dedicating their lives for North Korea’s freedom.

  • North Korea Freedom Week defector delegation including members of the North Korea People’s Liberation Front (Former DPRK Soldiers).

This event is open to the public and no registration is required.

Monday, April 24th

1 PM to 4pm - North Korea’s Gulag:

Addressing an Ongoing Humanitarian Emergency

  • Organized by the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK)

  • Hosted by GW Truth and Human Rights in North Korea (GW THiNK)

5 pm to 6:30 PM - Film screening and discussion on refugee resettlement issues in the united states

  • Organized by NKinUSA

  • Hosted by the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law

Featuring

  • Film Screening of "I am Grace", a documentary by Director Christopher H.K. Lee about NKinUSA's Vice President Grace Jo's path to becoming a U.S. Citizen and finding her true identity.

  • Discussion of refugee resettlement issues in the United States.

  • This event will be followed by a reception.

  • After the reception, everyone is invited to our vigil in front of the Chinese Embassy, which is a short walk from UDC Law.

7 pm to 9 pm - Vigil for North Korean Refugees

  • Organized by the North Korea Freedom Coalition

North Korea Freedom Coalition activists and the visiting defector delegation will gather to remember and read aloud the names of the North Korean men, women, and children forcefully repatriated to North Korea by Chinese authorities to face certain torture, certain imprisonment and even execution.

Wednesday, April 26th

12 PM to 2 pm - The ORPHANS of north korea

Special luncheon presentation on the plight of children and orphans in North Korea

  • Organized by the Isabella Foundation

  • Hosted by Georgetown University Truth and Human Rights in North Korea (THiNK)

This event will include defector testimony from Lim Hye Jin, Kim Ji-young, and Jinhye Jo on how the regime uses orphans and other children for slave labor and how North Korean orphans suffer in China. It will also include a discussion of successful programs to help North Koreans with Park Jung Oh as well as a call to action focused on ways to address this human rights tragedy.

12 PM - Capitol Hill Forum Working for Regime Change in North Korea Through Broadcasting & Other Means

  • Organized by the Defense Forum Foundation

This program will highlight the work by defectors to get information in and out of North Korea including outreach to those in power to bring about regime change and the end of the Kim dictatorship. Leaders of Free North Korea Radio, Fighters for Free North Korea and the North Korea People’s Liberation Front will inspire you with their incredible work to liberate their homeland from tyranny.
